Jerusalem Committee deplores Israeli violations in Jerusalem

AMMAN — The right-wing Israeli government has continued its accelerated policy to relentlessly seize and Judaise Jerusalem and erase its historical Arab identity as part of its apartheid practices against the defenseless Palestinian people for decades, the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs (RCJA) warned on Monday.

In a statement to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, RCJA Secretary-General Abdullah Kanaan said that the Israeli occupation's current settlement projects, forceful expulsions in Jerusalem’s neighbourhoods, incursions into Palestinian camps and towns and murders of their residents have all been reinforced by Israel's hard-line government.

In this regard, Kannan referred to the Israeli government's step to hold a meeting on Sunday in tunnels near the Islamic Al Buraq Wall in “flagrant defiance” of international legitimacy resolutions.

Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif, including Al Buraq Wall, with its total area of 144 dunums, is an exclusively Islamic site.

The RCJA secretary-general said that the Israeli occupation commits political, economic, cultural and social crimes against the Palestinian people and humanity as a whole.

Kannan added that this effort is part of Israel's dangerous agenda and strategy to extend its false sovereignty and identity to the occupied Palestinian territories, with little regard for international legitimacy resolutions.

Based on the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites, RCJA reiterates Jordan’s firm position and continuous historical efforts to defend Palestinians' rights, including the historic and legal right to self-determination and establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East  Jerusalem as its capital, Kanaan said.

The RCJA calls on the world and its legitimate organisations to immediately fulfil their duty to instate peace and security and find a solution to the arrogance of Israeli parties' leaders and their defiance of international law, Kanaan added.

The committee also stresses the need to support Jordan’s relentless efforts to protect the Palestinian people, the RCJA head said.
