AMMAN — Secretary-General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs Abdullah Kanaan on Sunday welcomed Australia's recent announcement to reuse the term "Occupied Palestinian Territories" in its official communications and engagements regarding the Palestinian cause.
This political move is seen as an “exemplary demonstration” of commitment to upholding the rights of the Palestinian people to their occupied land, and it also underlines a diplomatic approach, compliant with international resolutions, Kanaan said.
He added that Australia's statement is in line with the stance of the global community, including Jordan, the Custodian of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Kanaan urged both Arab and international media to use accurate terminology when discussing the Palestinian cause, especially the term "occupied Palestinian territories".
The Foreign Ministry had welcomed the Australian foreign minister's reaffirmation of its commitment to the reintroduction of the term “occupied Palestinian territories”.
