AMMAN — The Jordan Industrial Estates Company (JIEC) on Tuesday signed separate agreements with two local companies to implement and supervise the first phase of the Zarqa Industrial Estate project.

The first phase involves the development of 1,116 dunums of the estate’s total 4,700 dunums, and the construction of industrial buildings on 22,000 square metres of land with a total cost of JD21 million, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

JIEC Director General Omar Juwaid said that company “counts a lot” on the project, as it is among JIEC’s most important strategic projects as part of the company’s 2020-2025 executive plans as well as the government’s action priorities for 2021-2023, which aim at realising development across the Kingdom and providing jobs for young people.

The first phase also involves solely construction work, such as construction of industrial buildings, the implementation of water, electricity, communications, street lighting and fire fighting infrastructure, as well as the construction of the estate’s administrative buildings, which include on its sides service buildings and water tanks, Juwaid said.

The estate project is located 30 kilometres east of Zarqa and 15 kilometres from the free zone. This particular project is characterised by its strategic location close to international roads on boarders with Iraq, Syria and Saudi Arabia, making it a focus of interest and attraction for investors.
