AMMAN — The Jordan Media Institute (JMI) on Monday signed a partnership agreement with USAID Makanati Women’s Economic Empowerment and Leadership Activity, aimed to promote professional development among Jordan’s media personnel.

A JMI statement, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, noted that under the partnership, the institute will provide several comprehensive projects to enhance professional development opportunities for journalists and media personnel in Jordan, implementing over 270 training programmes.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, JMI CEO Mustafa Hamarneh said that as a leading media institution in Jordan, JMI is always keen to promote excellence in education in the journalism and media fields, and develop workers’ skills in this area.

For his part, Daniel Swift, USAID Director of Economic Development and Energy Office, said that this partnership will have a “true and lasting” impact on the lives of media workers and their communities.

Makanati Director Nermin Jarlik said that this partnership contributes to creating a “more diverse and inclusive” media field, also representing an “important” stage in improving women’s access to jobs in the private sector and providing “safe, fair and accessible” work environments for all.

The training programmes feature the latest teaching methods and provide practical opportunities to enter new media disciplines, JMI said.

The Makanati project, funded by the US government, provides certified capacity-building programmes that aim to train 60 workers in the journalism and media fields, according to the institute.

The capacity-building programmes provide various training courses on important topics in the media sector, primarily digital transformation, investigative journalism and digital media.
