Jordan committed to continued support for Palestinians

AMMAN — Jordan is committed to implementing all agreements signed between Jordan and Palestine and full support for the Palestinians, Prime Minister Hani Mulki said Saturday.

At a meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah in Amman, Mulki also welcomed the holding of the Jordanian-Palestinian higher committee’s meetings in Amman in the coming few days, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The premier highlighted the "deep-rooted" friendship between Jordan and Palestine, expressing keenness to “further develop it to serve the interests of both countries and peoples”.

The Kingdom always supports Palestinians’ resilience and their efforts to overcome the obstacles facing them, Mulki said, stressing that the Palestinian issue is Jordan's central issue that will receive Amman’s full support until the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people are restored.

He expressed hope that Palestinians and Israelis would resume serious and real negotiations, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, that will lead to the establishment of a Palestinian independent state within the pre-1967 lines.

Despite the complicated regional circumstances, Palestine continues to be the Kingdom’s core cause, the prime minister said, reaffirming that regional crises in the Middle East are blamed on the lack of a just solution to the Palestinian issue.

For his part, Hamdallah praised the Jordanian role in protecting and renovating Al Aqsa Mosque and Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, highlighting the importance of a relevant agreement signed between His Majesty King Abdullah and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in that regard in 2013.

The Palestinian premier commended the continuous coordination between both countries regarding the Palestinian issue and other issues of mutual interest, highlighting measures the Jordanian government takes to facilitate the movement of Palestinian passengers and exports on border crossings.

The premiers also tackled means to enhance economic and trade cooperation, and discussed the possibility of enhancing the electricity connectivity between the two sides, highlighting the importance of the planned Red Sea-Dead Sea Water Conveyance Project in improving water security for Jordan and Palestine, Petra added.
