Jordan, Egypt intensify diplomatic efforts for ceasefire, humanitarian aid in Gaza

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday discussed the developments in Gaza and ways to intensify efforts to halt the aggression, ensure international protection for Palestinians, facilitate the swift, adequate and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged strip. During the meeting, which falls within ongoing consultations and coordination between the two countries, regarding the escalating situation in Gaza, both ministers stressed the urgent necessity for a comprehensive ceasefire. Both ministers agreed about the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2720, particularly regarding increased humanitarian access to Gaza and the establishment of a UN mechanism to monitor and oversee humanitarian access. Safadi and Shoukry reiterated their countries’ commitment to enhancing consultation and coordination on all matters of common concern, as well as efforts to resolve regional crises. They also underscored the importance of bolstering economic and trade cooperation bilaterally and with the framework of trilateral cooperation with Iraq.
