Jordan, Iceland discuss ties, region

AMMAN — Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Thursday met with his Icelandic counterpart Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson and discussed bilateral relations and the latest regional developments.

The two officials stressed the importance of boosting cooperation in all domains, especially in trade and renewable energy, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Judeh, who is also deputy prime minister, stressed the importance of relaunching Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations, which should ultimately lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

On Syria, Judeh reiterated Jordan's unaltered position which advocates a comprehensive political solution that safeguards Syria's territorial unity and ends the suffering of its people.

The two officials also discussed the situation in Iraq, Libya and Yemen as well as international counterterrorism efforts.

For his part, Sveinsson voiced his country's keenness on enhancing its relations with Jordan, especially in trade exchange and investments.

He also commended Jordan's key role in the region and its efforts to restore security and stability.
