AMMAN — Jordan is heading in the right direction in its nuclear programme, an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) official said Friday.
At a ceremony to present the agency’s report after a comprehensive review of the nuclear programme, IAEA Deputy Director General Dennis Florry, who heads the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security, said the Kingdom needs to train its human resources within the framework of the nuclear project and enhance the laws governing the sector.
Jordan also has to prepare a new administrative structure within the Energy and Minerals Regulation Commission, Florry added.
Energy Minister Mohammad Hamed received the report from the IAEA official at the ceremony, attended by Jordan Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Khaled Toukan, who stressed the government’s commitment to nuclear safety standards.
