AMMAN — Jordan's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Mahmoud Hmoud on Thursday led an international effort with 123 countries to bolster support for UNRWA.
During a press conference at UN headquarters, Hmoud raised concerns over recent measures taken by Israel against UNRWA, including a draft law submitted to the Israeli parliament that could restrain the agency's life-saving operations in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The initiative was part of a collaborative commitment to supporting UNRWA, which was launched by Jordan, Kuwait, and Slovenia in May, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Hmoud stressed that UNRWA's role is "irreplaceable and indispensable," serving as the cornerstone of humanitarian aid for generations of Palestinian refugees.
The ambassador also highlighted the findings of a report by the agency's independent review group, led by Catherine Colonna, and welcomed UNRWA's commitment to fully implementing the report's recommendations.
