Jordan sees daily high of 111 COVID deaths

6,570 virus cases recorded Wednesday

AMMAN — One hundred and eleven COVID-19 deaths and 6,570 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Wednesday, increasing the caseload to 611,577, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 6,858 according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 15.22 per cent, compared with 15.71 per cent reported on Tuesday.

A total of 43,158 virus tests were also conducted on Wednesday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 5,918,158, according to the statement.

The statement added that 9,192 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Wednesday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 513,144.

The statement added that there are currently 91,575 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 441 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Wednesday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 3,350, the statement said, adding that 368 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 51 per cent, ICU beds reached 75 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 40 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 68 per cent, 81 per cent for ICUs and 46 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation bed occupancy rate of 33 per cent, 37 per cent for ICUs and 18 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 2,720 infections in Amman, 1,110 in Irbid, including 118 in Ramtha District, 443 in Balqa, 546 in Zarqa, 72 in Madaba, 251 in Aqaba, 343 in Mafraq, 220 in Jerash, 285 in Ajloun, 286 in Karak, 156 in Tafileh and 138 in Maan, including 20 cases in Petra District.
