AMMAN — The Jordan Tourism Board (JTB), in partnership with Universes in Universe-Worlds of Art (UiU), has announced the launch of “Art Destination Jordan”, a website that gives a glimpse into both the modern and ancient art scene in the Kingdom, on the first day of ITB Berlin, an international travel exhibition.
The JTB and UiU will be presenting the shared project to ITB visitors during the trade days of ITB for a demonstration on the key factors of the shared project, a statement by the JTB e-mailed to The Jordan Times on Wednesday indicated.
Art Destination Jordan is a "unique web product and a sustainable resource for cultural tourism, combining contemporary and modern arts and architecture with historical treasures, traditions and cultural heritage of the country", the statement said.
With Amman as its starting point, “a modern city built on the sands of time”, the project also recommends excursions to other cities, archaeological sites and attractions in Jordan, the statement added.
Commenting on the launch, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Lina Annab said: “We’re really excited to see Jordan presented in a different light than usual. The classical view of the country reflects our ancient cultural heritage, our adventure trails and our modern hotels, but this is the first time we’re highlighting contemporary art events, museums, studios, hotspots and more to our visitors.”
Abed Al Razzaq Arabiyat, managing director of JTB, added: “It is this type of project that will enhance the perception of Jordan in international markets and encourage visitors to not only extend their stays in Amman, but in the country as a whole.”
The idea behind Art Destination Jordan is to contribute in boosting cultural tourism and producing tangible economic results to the country and these cultural hostpots.
UiU is one of the top web portals in the field of the visual arts. It is visited by approximately 700 thousand unique users annually as an essential resource for art critics, journalists, curators, art and cultural institution, artists, art collectors, patrons and friends around the world, according to the statement.
Patricia Binder and Dr Gerhard Hapt are art specialist and directors of the consultancy and art promotion agency Binder &HauptGbR (based in Berlin) and are the publishers of the web portal “Universes in Universe-Worlds of Art” since 1997 in English, German and Spanish.
