AMMAN — Foreign Affairs Minister Ayman Safadi on Thursday discussed with UK’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Boris Johnson means of bolstering bilateral cooperation in various fields, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The London talks covered steps taken to increase investment, defence and security collaboration.

Safadi stressed the importance of the outcomes of His Majesty King Abdullah and the UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s talks during her visit to Jordan last year.

The two diplomats also discussed cooperation to solve regional crises and achieve security and peace in the neighbourhood.

They stressed the need for collective efforts to find new political horizons to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.

Safadi and Johnson also went over developments in the Syrian crisis, agreeing that military actions are not the solution to the conflict.

He briefed his UK counterpart on the repercussions of the crisis represented by hosting 1.3 million Syrian refugees and the burdens that Jordan has been shouldering consequently.

In a Tweet, Safadi wrote: “Grateful to #British FS @BorisJohnson for wonderful hospitality & insightful conversation on #MEPP #Syria & solid ties. An enduring #Jordan #UK partnership and joint commitment to regional peace, stability”.
