Jordanian dam water storage reaches 31.88% capacity

AMMAN — The volume of rainfall has met 56.1 per cent of Jordan’s long-term annual average of 8.1billion cubic metres, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.  

Over the past 24 hours, the highest quantity of rainfall was recorded in Salt, with 19.8millimetres (mm), the Water Ministry announced on Sunday. 

A total of 1.5million cubic metres (mcm) of water entered the Kingdom’s dams as a result of the recent rainfall, according to the ministry. 

At the governorate level, Amman witnessed 6.8mm of rain, 7.7mm in Balqa, 4.4mm in Madaba, 1.7mm in Zarqa, 4.1mm in Jerash, 1.7mm in Mafraq, 8.1mm in Irbid, 9.4mm in Ajloun and 0.8mm in Karak. Jordanian dam’s water storage increased to 89.5mcm, equivalent to 31.88 per cent of full storage capacity, which stands at 280.759mcm. 

According to official figures, rainfall was recorded in northern and central dams only.
