Jordanian students from Yemeni universities protest admission conditions

By Petra - Oct 16,2014 - Last updated at Oct 16,2014

AMMAN — Students returning from Yemeni universities staged a sit-in in on Thursday in front of the Ministry of Higher Education and later in front of the Prime Ministry, protesting that the ministry’s conditions to accept them at Jordanian universities were “impossible to meet”.

Students who were enrolled in medicine, dentistry or engineering faculties said the ministry’s requirements were impossible, noting that they would not be able to pass the required examination in Jordan because of the differences in the education systems between the two countries.

The Higher Education Council had decided that students may be accepted at Jordanian universities within the regular programmes provided that their General Secondary Certificate Examination score is no less than the minimum average required to join the university specialisation at local universities.
