Jordanian truckers urged not to use Iraqi border crossing

By Petra - Jan 07,2014 - Last updated at Jan 07,2014

AMMAN — Jordan’s embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday requested the owners of Jordanian trucks not to go to Iraq via the Karameh-Treibil border at the present time.

In a statement, the embassy said the international highway is witnessing military and security operations, which jeopardises the safety of trucks, regardless of their origin.

The embassy said it was working with Iraqi authorities to ensure the safe passage of several stranded Jordanian trucks which were heading home via the Iraqi border as soon as possible.

The embassy urged Jordanians to contact it or the Jordanian security authorities at the border crossing for any inquiries.

The Karameh or Treibil border crossing is situated 370km to the east of Amman.
