Jordanians ‘appalled’ by murder of 21 Egyptian Copts, express sympathies with victims’ families

AMMAN – Many Jordanians on Monday said they were appalled by the murder of 21 Egyptian Copts by the “criminals” of the Daesh terror group in Libya. 

A video released by the group late Sunday night purportedly showed the beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians.

In remarks to The Jordan Times and in statements on social media networks, several citizens voiced their sympathies with the families of the victims and the Egyptian people, calling Daesh a gang of criminals.

Reem Al Rawashdeh, a journalist, said “these people”, referring to Daesh militants, seek to distort the image of Islam, and their terrorist acts only cause harm to true Muslims who respect all religions and beliefs. 

“I strongly condemn this crime and I offer condolences to all Egyptians,” she said, noting that Prophet Mohammad urged Muslims to take good care of Copts. 

Mahmoud Hassan said it is important for Arabs and Muslims to stand together and destroy the group, which kills innocent people, both Muslims and non-Muslims. 

“These terrorists should be wiped out,” Hassan said, adding he was sickened when he heard the news of the murder of the Egyptians. 

Amer Shaar, a university lecturer, said Jordanians saw the barbarism and brutality of Daesh terrorists when they burnt alive air force pilot Muath Kasasbeh. 

“We feel sorry for the victims and offer condolences to their families,” he told The Jordan Times over the phone. 

“It is important to convince the world that these criminals are not Muslims,” Tahsin Dweiri posted on his Facebook account.

Mohammad Alsardi, another Facebook user, noted that Daesh has killed Sunni and Shiite Muslims, Christians and Yazidis, describing its members as criminals and enemies of humanity. 

Mohammad Sari said he was praying for God to have mercy on the victims, calling them brothers. 

“For a second I imagined I was one of the Egyptians killed by the idiots, scary image! You and your families are in our prayers,” Abier Amarin said on her Twitter account (@Abier_Amarin). 

“Humanity weeps today with every victim of terror,” Batool Abdallat (@batoolabd) tweeted.

“My condolences to the people of Egypt,” she added.   

Faysal Ghuman (@faysalghuman) said in a tweet that Daesh militants are neither Muslims, as they only harm the image of true Islam, nor are they humans.
