Jordan’s trade deficit up by 29.2% in first 11 months of 2021 — DoS

AMMAN — The Kingdom's trade deficit increased during the first 11 months of 2021 by 29.2 per cent to reach JD7.824 billion, compared with the same period in 2020, where it stood at JD6.056 billion, the Department of Statistics (DoS) announced on Wednesday.

According to a DoS report on foreign trade in Jordan, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the volume of total exports in the January-November period of 2021 increased by 18.3 per cent to JD5.997 billion, compared with the same period of 2020.

National exports in the first 11 months of 2021 also increased by 20.1 per cent to JD5.447 billion, compared with the same period of last year.

The report also showed that re-exports stood at JD550.2 million in the first 11 months of 2021, marking a 3.3 per cent increase, compared with the same period of 2020.

Jordan's imports in the January-November period of 2021 rose by 24.2 per cent to JD13.821 billion, compared with JD11,125 billion in the same period of last year, the DoS figures showed.

The percentage of total export coverage for imports in the first 11 months of 2021 stood at 43.4 per cent compared with 45.6 per cent in the same period of 2020, marking a drop of 2.2 per cent. 

At a monthly level, the Kingdom's national exports in November alone increased by 38.6 per cent to JD598.9 million compared with JD432.2 million during the same month of 2020, DoS added.
