AMMAN — The Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) and Germany's LUMA-International Company on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding to establish and operate a phosphoric acid factory in southern Jordan.

The agreement was signed by JPMC CEO Abdulwahab Rawad and Managing Director at LUMA-International Ralf Keller in the presence of JPMC Board Chairman Mohammad Thneibat, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Thneibat stressed the importance of such agreements to switch to manufacturing through building more factories, as well as to reducing production and export costs and to boosting the JPMC’s status and competitiveness in global markets.

He said that the deal with LUMA-International underlines the status of the JPMC and its quality phosphate output, in addition to the commitment shown by many fertilizer producers to starting partnerships with the company.

He also stressed that the company is committed to launching projects with various stakeholders to diversify its income and enhance its role in supporting the national economy and providing jobs for Jordanians.

Keller praised the achievements of the JPMC in production and exports, expressing appreciation for the JPMC's efforts in being open to global markets and diversifying partnerships in this field.

He expressed pride in the new partnership with the company, which he said will set the ground for a broader future cooperation.

Rawad said that the JPMC would, under the agreement, provide the new factory with its needs of raw phosphate to produce phosphoric acid, while LUMA is committed to buying the total output of the factory.
