AMMAN — Citibank Jordan and the Jordan River Foundation (JRF) recently held the 13th “Citi Micro-Entrepreneurship Awards” ceremony recognising 15 entrepreneurs and their contributions to the economic sustainability of their families and communities.

The winners represented an array of industries, including logistics, beauty, care, tourism and handicrafts, and were awarded Citibank grants to help develop and expand their projects, according to a joint statement sent to The Jordan Times.

Implemented by the Citi Foundation, the awards programme aimed to strengthen the role of microfinance in alleviating poverty, while raising awareness and appreciation of the contributions of individual entrepreneurship projects.

"Today, we honour 15 entrepreneurs whose projects have impacted their communities, created jobs and sustainable income for their families,” JRF Director General Enaam Barrishi said at the ceremony.

Barrishi also commended the efforts of the National Committee and the Citi Foundation during the ceremony.

Since its launch in 2005, the event has recognised the achievements of 289 entrepreneurs.

This year, the JRF will be enrolling winners into a series of training sessions covering business development skills and funding eligibility.

"At the heart of Citi’s awards is a mission to improve the livelihoods of entrepreneurs, their families and communities," stated Nour Jarrar, CEO of Citibank Jordan. “Today’s 15 winners exemplify what true hard work, risk taking, innovation and entrepreneurship should be.”
