King arrives home after UN meeting

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Friday returned to the Kingdom after concluding his working visit in New York where he headed the Jordanian delegation to the 71st UN General Assembly meeting, according to a Royal Court statement. 

During the visit, His Majesty, who delivered a speech at the plenary meeting, held several meetings with heads of states and delegations.

He discussed developments in the Syrian crisis, efforts of combating terrorism and ways to resume the Palestinian-Israeli peace process with US Secretary of State John Kerry.

King Abdullah also discussed with World Economic Forum (WEF) Chairman Klaus Schwab cooperation between Jordan and the forum and efforts and preparations to host the WEF's conference on the Middle East and North Africa, which is scheduled to be held, for the ninth time, at the Dead Sea in May 2017.

His Majesty King Abdullah met over bilateral ties and global cooperation with Chancellor of Austria Christian Kern, Spanish King Felipe VI, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, President of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Gjorge Ivanov, British Prime Minister Theresa May, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo Isa Mustafa and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim.

His Majesty also met with Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al Abadi.

 

At the Leaders’ Summit on Refugees and Migrants, co-hosted by the US, Jordan, Mexico, Canada, Sweden, Germany and Ethiopia, King Abdullah delivered a speech, in which he reiterated that an apt response to the escalating refugee crisis is a collective global responsibility.
