King, in call with Abbas, reaffirms Jordan’s unwavering position towards Palestinian cause

King: Jordan communicating with partners to discuss urgent int’l action to ensure de-escalation

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday reaffirmed Jordan’s unwavering position towards the Palestinian cause, stressing the need to find a political horizon that guarantees the fulfillment of all the just and legitimate rights of the Palestinians.

In a phone call with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, King Abdullah reiterated that peace and stability cannot be reached without a just and comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian issue, on the basis of the two-state solution, guaranteeing the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state, on the June 4 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, according to a Royal Court statement

His Majesty also called for stepping up Arab, regional, and international efforts for de-escalation in Gaza and its surroundings, as well as pushing towards self-restraint, protecting civilians, and respecting international humanitarian law.

His Majesty, in a phone call with Egypt President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday, reiterated the need to work together to prevent further escalation of the situation between the Palestinians and the Israelis, which would have dangerous repercussions on all efforts towards comprehensive calm, and on regional security and stability.

King Abdullah called for stepping up joint efforts to de-escalate the dangerous situation in Gaza and its surroundings, stressing the need to encourage both sides to commit to self-restraint, protect civilians, and respect international humanitarian law.

His Majesty said Jordan is communicating with regional and international partners to discuss urgent international action to ensure de-escalation and protect the region from the impact of a new cycle of violence.

The two sides agreed to maintain coordination on various issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.

The King, in a phone call received on Sunday from Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al Sudani, highlighted the need to enhance Arab coordination for de-escalation in Gaza and its surroundings, and support the Palestinians in gaining their legitimate rights.

King Abdullah noted the need for joint action to avoid further escalation of the situation between the Palestinians and the Israelis, stressing the importance of self-restraint, protecting civilians, and respecting international humanitarian law.

His Majesty and United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Sunday discussed the dangerous escalation in Gaza and its surroundings, as well as the need to push the Palestinians and the Israelis towards committing to self-restraint.

In a phone call with the UAE president, King Abdullah reaffirmed the need to step up joint efforts of de-escalation, highlighting the importance of joint action to prevent the exacerbation of the situation, and to avoid dangerous repercussions on efforts to reach comprehensive calm, as well as on regional security and stability.

His Majesty expressed appreciation of the UAE’s pivotal efforts, especially at the United Nations Security Council, in containing the situation and halting escalation.

The phone call also covered efforts to communicate with regional and international partners to galvanise urgent action for de-escalation and protecting the region from the impact of a new cycle of violence.

The King, in a phone call received from European Council President Charles Michel on Sunday, reiterated that in the absence of a just solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the situation will continue to deteriorate and the dangerous escalation will continue.

King Abdullah highlighted the importance of coordination between Jordan and the European Union on working towards de-escalation, warning against dangerous repercussions on efforts to reach comprehensive calm, and on overall regional security.

His Majesty called for stepping up joint efforts to push the two sides towards committing to self-restraint, protecting civilians, and respecting international humanitarian law.

Also on Sunday, King Abdullah, in a phone call received on Sunday from Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, warned against the dangerous repercussions of the escalation between the Palestinians and the Israelis on the security of the entire region.

King Abdullah called for stepping up international efforts to stop escalation in Gaza and its surroundings, highlighting that the situation will continue to deteriorate in the absence of a just solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

His Majesty highlighted the importance of maintaining coordination between Jordan and Canada to push the two sides to commit to self-restraint, protecting civilians, and respecting international humanitarian law. 

Also on Sunday, His Majesty King Abdullah and France President Emmanuel Macron, in a phone call, discussed the need to step up international efforts to end the escalation in Gaza and its surroundings.

King Abdullah warned that the situation will continue to deteriorate in the absence of a just solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, noting the dangerous repercussions of escalation on regional security.

The importance of maintaining coordination between Jordan and France, and the need to push towards self-restraint, protecting civilians, and respecting international humanitarian law were also discussed.
