King receives officials participating in 2022 OSCE Mediterranean Conference

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday received participants in the 2022 Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Mediterranean Conference, hosted by Jordan at the Dead Sea.

At Al Husseiniya Palace, King Abdullah met with OSCE Chairman-in-Office Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid, and North Macedonia’s Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, according to a Royal Court statement.

His Majesty expressed pride in Jordan’s strategic ties with OSCE member states, highlighting the importance of maintaining cooperation and coordination in light of regional and international challenges.

The King stressed the need to continue the OSCE’s coordination with partners in the Middle East, and to build on the outcomes of the conference, affirming Jordan’s commitment to working with the organisation to counter mutual challenges.

The meeting covered regional developments and efforts to reach political solutions to crises in the region, as well as the need to maintain support for refugees and host countries.

His Majesty reiterated the centrality of the Palestinian cause, reaffirming that there can be no stability, nor prosperity in the region without a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause, on the basis of the two-state solution, guaranteeing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The King also urged maintaining efforts to counter terrorism within a holistic approach.

For their part, the ministers and OSCE officials highlighted the importance of the conference in enhancing dialogue with the organisation’s partners in the Mediterranean, citing close cooperation with Jordan on several regional and international issues.

They also commended Jordan’s role in pursuit of peace and prosperity in the region.

The conference, titled “Advancing security and co-operation in the Mediterranean: fostering dialogue with the OSCE Mediterranean Partners for Co-operation”, is held with the participation of 57 countries, including members of the OSCE, six partner countries from the Mediterranean, and representatives of international organisations

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Poland's Ambassador to Jordan Lucjan Karpiński attended the meeting.
