AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday received representatives of Syria, Turkey, Iraq and Lebanon participating in a high-level meeting for Syria’s neighbouring countries, hosted by Jordan.
During the meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace and attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, His Majesty affirmed Jordan’s support of Syria’s efforts to preserve its security, stability, territorial integrity, and to protect its citizens, according to a Royal Court statement.
Discussions during the meeting covered the importance of practical coordination between Syria and its neighbouring countries on regional security challenges, particularly in relation to countering terrorism, maintaining border security, and halting drug and arms trafficking, and other shared concerns.
The King emphasised the need to create suitable conditions for the voluntary and safe return of Syrian refugees to their country, to enable them to contribute to the rebuilding process, the statement said.
The meeting was attended by foreign ministers, defence ministers, chiefs of staff and directors of the intelligence agencies of Jordan, Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon.
