By-law amendments to ‘improve competence of public servants, provide more flexibility’

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Sunday approved the mandating reasons of draft amendments to the civil service by-law, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The by-law aims at improving the competence of public servants, consolidating work principles, evaluating performance and stipulating punitive measures, Petra said.

It also entails encouraging secondary school students to choose vocational education.

The amendments also regulate employing graduates of vocational community colleges, granting annual allowances to employees who reached the highest ranks at their jobs, and taking the experiences of municipal employees when they are employed at civil service institutions.

They also stipulate “flexible working hours” in a way that each department will be able to organise its working hours in accordance with the nature of the services it provides.

Also on Sunday, the Council of Ministers discussed the recommendations of the Services, Infrastructure and Social Affairs Committee related to the executive plan of “the National Strategy for Human Resources Development 2016-2025”.

The Cabinet directed the committee to provide more financial details and time frames to implement the outcomes of the strategy.

The government also approved the executive regulations of the cooperation agreement on civil protection and defence with Tunisia.

 

The agreement establishes permanent cooperation between Jordan and Tunisia in civil defence to deal with catastrophes and important events.
