Licensed building area sees 6.5% growth in first 10 months of 2023 — DoS

AMMAN — The Department of Statistics (DoS) on Thursday announced that the total area of licensed buildings in the first ten months of 2023 increased by 6.5 per cent, going from 7.450 million square metres during the same period in 2022 to 7.937 million square metres in 2022.

 

The department added that the total number of building licences issued in the Kingdom decreased by 4.4 per cent to 20,535 licences during the January-October period of 2023 from the 21,473 licences issued during the same period in 2022, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

 

The DoS stated in its report that the total area of buildings licensed for non-residential purposes increased by 4.7 per cent from approximately 1.28 million square metres in the same period last year to 1.34 million square metres in the first ten months of 2023.

 

Licensed buildings for housing comprised 83 per cent of the total area of licensed buildings, according to the department.

 

The central region of the Kingdom accounted for 65.6 per cent of the total area of licensed buildings, while the north recorded 25.8 per cent and the south witnessed 8.6 per cent, according to the DoS.

 

At a monthly level, data showed that the number of building permits in October reached 2,307, while the area of licensed buildings reached 880,000 square metres, compared with 912,000 square metres during the same month of 2022, registering a decrease of 3.5 per cent.
