AMMAN — The Lower House had every right to take its time in discussing the draft income tax law taking into account the best interests of the country, Speaker Atef Tarawneh said Wednesday.

Responding to Deputy Saad Bluwi’s (The Dawn list) claims that the government had accused the House of delaying discussions of the bill, Tarawneh said the Chamber consulted experts during its deliberations and managed to endorse a law “we are proud of”.

It took deputies more than 13 meetings over two sessions to endorse the draft law, according to Tarawneh.

Also on Wednesday, MPs endorsed draft amendments to the Development and Employment Fund Law.

The speaker later adjourned the session for lack of quorum and cancelled an evening session that was scheduled on the same day.
