Lower House speaker marks 53rd anniversary of Al Aqsa arson attack

AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Abdulkarim Dughmi on Monday, the 53rd anniversary of the first attempt to burn Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif, stressed the importance of Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Dughmi also praised the Hashemite role in caring for Islamic and Christian holy sites in the holy city, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Michael Dennis Rohan, a tourist from Australia and a member of the “Church of God”, set fire to the mosque on August 21, 1969 in an attempt “to hasten the coming of the Messiah”.
