AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Thursday began questioning a 26-year-old man who allegedly murdered his brother in Karak a day earlier, official sources said.

The 21-year-old victim was reportedly stabbed by his older siblings following a heated argument on Thursday night, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

“The two brothers had engaged in a heated argument, which ended with the older brother stabbing his sibling,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

“The suspect reportedly confessed to police that the stabbing incident was over where he parked the family’s vehicle,” a senior judicial source said.

The two brothers engaged in a heated argument while in the street, according to the senior judicial source.

“The argument escalated and ended up with the suspect stabbing the victim with a knife once in the chest,” the senior judicial source added.

The suspect claimed during interrogation that he had no intention of “murdering his brother and that he meant only to scare him”, according to the senior judicial source.

The suspect reportedly ushered authorities to where he dumped “the knife he said was used in the stabbing incident”, the senior judicial source added.

The Criminal Court prosecutor ordered that the knife be sent to the Forensic and Laboratories Department for further analysis, the senior judicial source said.

The victim was rushed to Karak Government Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, the senior judicial source said.

A postmortem conducted by government pathologists Iwad Tarawneh, Ala Bawat and Kamal Habashneh at the Karak National Institute of Forensic Medicine indicated that the victim died of a single stab wound to the chest, a senior medical source said.

“The victim died from internal bleeding as a result of the stab wound the victim sustained to his chest,” the senior medical source told The Jordan Times.

The suspect was detained for 15 days at a correctional and rehabilitation centre pending further investigations into the incident, the senior judicial source added.

Sartawi said that investigations are ongoing into the stabbing incident.
