Man charged with premeditated murder of his sister

AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Sunday charged a man with the premeditated murder in connection with the alleged shooting death of his sister on Sunday in the Balqa Governorate, official sources said.

The victim was reportedly shot multiple times by her brother following a domestic dispute, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said on Sunday.

"Police were able to quickly arrest the suspect, who is in his 20s, and refer him to the Criminal Court prosecutor," Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The Criminal Court prosecutor decided to level premeditated murder charges based on the initial investigations, according to a senior judicial source.

"The suspect claimed that he murdered his sister over old feuds related to her marriage," the senior judicial source told The Jordan Times.

The source would not release any further information stating only that “the case is still being investigated”.

“The Criminal Court prosecutor is currently questioning the victim’s family members to learn more about the shooting incident,” the senior judicial source added.  

The suspect was ordered detained by the Criminal Court prosecutor for 15 days pending further investigation a second source added.
