AMMAN — The Jordan Exporters Association (JEA) and the Business and Professional Women Association (BPWA) on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding to set up a specialised export unit for women-owned businesses in the Kingdom.
The export unit was created through a grant offered to the women’s association by the German Agency for International Cooperation’s Trade for Employment programme, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
JEA President Omar Abu Wishah said that the association sees the memorandum as a “gateway” to support businesswomen, promote their products in global markets and enable them to participate in trade fairs and events organised by the association.
The JEA has a “long history” in the field of marketing and opening foreign markets to national exports, Abu Wishah said, pointing to support programmes implemented as part of the association’s promotional activities, especially those carried out in Canada, the US and the UAE.
President of the BPWA Rana Abwah said that the establishment of the unit “came within the association’s vision to empower businesswomen, enhance women’s export role and improve their access to economic opportunities”.
The unit is considered the “first of its kind” in the region as it specifically targets businesswomen, Abwah stated, pointing out that it aims at increasing awareness and knowledge through organising export-related courses and workshops under the supervision of experts to improve and increase competitiveness among women-owned companies.
