AMMAN — Prime Minister Hani Mulki on Tuesday visited Mabarrat Um Al Hussein for orphaned children and the Golden Age Home for the elderly, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Mulki delivered His Majesty King Abdullah's greetings to the orphans and his wishes for them to enjoy Eid Al Fitr.

During the visit, the premier was briefed on the activities of Mabarrat Um Al Hussein, which hosts 60 children between the ages of 6 and 18 who are either orphaned or from broken families.

Mabarrat Um Al Hussein boasts a computer lab and a gym as well as dormitories, and it was established in 1958 as the first charitable society to take care of orphaned children, Petra reported.

The premier issued directives to the Greater Amman Municipality to conduct necessary maintenance on the building and to take care of the surrounding gardens for the children to play in.

At the Golden Age Home, the prime minister was briefed on the institution’s history since its inauguration in 1979 by His Majesty the late King Hussein.

The home serves around 120 to 130 elderly people and needs annual maintenance, which is costly, the head of the home said, adding that it requires the support of the government and society.

Mulki said the government is ready to address the home's needs and to look into the issue of providing the elderly with health insurance.
