Music academy to offer classes for children at Haya centre

AMMAN — Haya Cultural Centre and the National Music Conservatory (NMC) on Monday signed a cooperation agreement to establish a music academy at the centre.

The centre's chairman, Jamal Fariz, signed the agreement with NMC Director Mohammad Siddiq. 

Under the deal, the academy will provide the means and programmes necessary to enhance children's musical skills and creativity. 

Officials at the centre said the agreement is part of its efforts to expand partnerships with like-minded national institutions, with the aim of exchanging expertise and knowledge. 

Children between the ages of 5 and 15 years who enroll in the academy will have the chance to pick their favourite musical instrument and take one-on-one or group classes. 

The music academy programme will be conducted over several phases and academic semesters, preparing enrolled children to take theoretical and practical tests to obtain international certificates accredited by ABRSM, the exam board of the UK Royal Schools of Music.

Activists and education experts have stressed the importance of music education for children as a means to nurture their creativity and enhance their appreciation of culture.
