NSCP warns against price hike in budget-friendly restaurants

By JT - Oct 24,2021 - Last updated at Oct 24,2021

AMMAN — The National Society of Consumer Protection (NSCP) called on the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply to engage the related bodies in the issue of increasing food prices in budget-friendly and non-tourist restaurants.

The NSCP said that the move will affect the middle- and low-income segment of the population.

The society's calls came after emergence of reports related to increasing the food price in the popular restaurants “without conducting studies”.

Budget-friendly restaurants in the Kingdom are allowed exemptions from the 16-per cent sales tax and in return they are required to sell their products at low prices, a move meant to alleviate burdens on low-income households.
