Orange Jordan launches award for female entrepreneurs in digital sector

AMMAN — On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Orange Jordan on Tuesday virtually launched the “Inspiring Change through Digital World” award to recognise women entrepreneurs in the digital sector.

Organised in partnership with the Information and Communication Technology Association (int@j), the launch ceremony was conducted over the Zoom platform.

During the launch event, which aimed to celebrate creative and innovative women in the digital field and all sectors, CEO of Orange Jordan Thierry Marigny said that “supporting women is a long standing commitment for Orange Jordan”, adding that advancing gender balance in workplaces helps to create better results.

In his statements, Marigny highlighted the low employment rate among women in Jordan and the low representation of women in board rooms.

He added that the award, which was launched under the umbrella of Shetechs, seeks to support females in the information and communication technology (ICT) fields.

“In Jordan women are quite impressive, strong, smart and full of energy,” Marigny expressed.

Through this initiative, Orange Jordan aims to empower women working across various sectors by offering them digital and entrepreneurial skills that enable them to expand and contribute positively to the economy, according to the organisers.

Int@j Board Member Ruba Darwish emphasised the importance of having more women in technology sectors as it cuts across all sectors and fields.

“Women are analytical, committed, dedicated and passionate,” said Darwish, noting that there is an increasing number of women in technology, but still more should be empowered.

Registration is open from March 9 until March 31 for projects that are either a viable prototype or in the development phase, and for people who are a founder, partner, CEO or a leading manager at a startup in Jordan.
