AMMAN — Chief commissioner of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Faris Briezat discussed on Thursday with the Ambassador of Brazil Márcio Fagundes ways of tourism cooperation between the two countries that contribute to exchange of expertise.
Briezat stressed the importance of bilateral tourism cooperation concerning the status of the city of Petra on the global tourism map, noting that the authority seeks to accomplish a comprehensive regional development process, most notably the diversification and development of tourism products in Petra.
He emphasised the importance of the city of Petra as a world heritage site, an important archaeological and tourist landmark, and one of the most prominent tourist attractions globally.
For his part, the ambassador said that he came to the city of Petra to enjoy its landmarks and learn about its historical and tourism heritage, pointing out the possibility of strengthening relations between the two countries through tourism, given the great potential that the two friendly countries have in this field, and the great tourist and archaeological sites.
He added that his country seeks to implement joint programmes and activities to develop the tourism visits to Petra in particular and the Kingdom in general.
In 2017, the PDTRA signed a twinning agreement between the city of Petra and the management of the site of the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil, to boost the status and presence of Petra globally, and to emphasise the uniqueness and distinction of its urban and natural heritage.
