PDTRA’s Farajat meets with UN, UNESCO officials

AMMAN — Chief Commissioner of Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Suleiman Farajat on Wednesday met UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Jordan Anders Pedersen and UNESCO Representative to Jordan Costanza Farina who were on a visit to the ancient city of Petra.
During the meeting, talks focused on issues related to the archaeological reserve, highlighting the necessity of managing the tourism process post-COVID-19 pandemic, in a sustainable manner to ensure preserving the site and tourism development in Petra district at the same time, according to a PDTRA statement.
Farajat briefed the delegation on the impact of tourism challenges on local communities, calling for developing prompt solutions.Petra city was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
