AMMAN — The Philippine embassy in Amman on Sunday night celebrated the Independence Day of Philippines, which annually falls on June 19. In a speech, delivered on the behalf of the Philippine Ambassador Akmad Sakkam by his wife Ruby Sakkam, the ambassador stressed his country's commitment to strengthening relations with Jordan to enhance mutual progress and prosperity, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The ambassador stated: "Sovereignty, freedom and democracy are three values that form a source of pride for every Filipino citizen, where these values found clear expression recently, when the country held nationwide elections and citizens voted with a majority for an elected president."

The envoy expressed appreciation for the "close friendship" with Jordan and the willingness to further boost communication and cooperation in various fields of mutual interest.

The Abdoun bridge was lit up in red, yellow and blue to celebrate the occasion.
