AMMAN — The embassy of the Philippines in Amman on Wednesday said they were waiting on investigations results in the murder of one of their nationals in the capital over the weekend.

The 69-year-old victim was reportedly killed by a female fellow national following a heated argument while at the victim’s apartment.

“We are following closely with the Jordanian authorities regarding the incident and are waiting the official medical and investigations’ reports,” an embassy official told The Jordan Times.

The official added that the victim has been living in Jordan for over 20 years.

“The victim lived in an apartment and we were informed that she was married to a Jordanian, but we do not have any documents to prove this,” the embassy official added.

The official added that the victim’s next of kin in the Philippines were notified about the incident.

“We are in contact with the family to see whether they prefer to receive her body or want her to be buried here in Jordan,” the embassy official added.

On Saturday, police were notified that the victim was found dead with bruises on her body and signs of struggle at her apartment.

Three days later, police announced the arrest of a woman, who knew the victim and she confessed to murdering her over an instant argument.

The suspect first claimed that the victim’s husband killed his wife but investigators “found loopholes in her story and upon further questioning she reportedly confessed to being the perpetrator”, officials have told The Jordan Times in recent interviews.

Officials contacted by The Jordan Times on Wednesday refused to reveal how they concluded that the victim’s friend became the prime suspect, citing “investigation  secrecy”.

The suspect is detained at Juweideh Women’s Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre pending further investigations.

A senior judicial source told The Jordan Times that the criminal court prosecutor has started questioning the suspect to learn more about the incident.

“The woman is being questioned by the prosecutor who will decide what charges to level once he finishes hearing the suspect’s statement and other witnesses,” the judicial source said.
