Plastic, rubber industries account for 59.7% of domestic consumption — JCI

AMMAN — Plastic and rubber industries account for 59.7 per cent of domestic consumption in the Kingdom, according to a report from the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI).
The report, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, revealed that the sector encompasses 641 facilities spread across the country, providing employment to approximately 12,200 workers. This workforce accounted for 4.5 per cent of the total industrial labour force, with a majority consisting of local employees.
The sector's annual production volume amounts to approximately JD657 million, contributing to 3.8 per cent of the country's total industrial output.
Furthermore, the plastic and rubber industries contribute 0.6 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), generating more than JD186 million, while investments within the sector exceed JD1.2 billion.
Jordanian plastic and rubber products have reached 70 export markets worldwide, featuring over 95 products. During the first third of this year, exports reached nearly JD45 million, showing a 4.9 per cent increase compared to the corresponding period of last year.
These exports account for 1.7 per cent of the total industrial exports and 1.66 per cent of the country's overall export volume.
