PM discusses ties, refugee crisis with Italian delegation

AMMAN — Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Monday met the chairman of the Italian parliament’s foreign affairs committee, Fabrizio Cicchitto, and an accompanying delegation.
At the meeting, the premier underlined Jordan’s commitment to increasing cooperation with Italy.
Ensour acquainted the delegates with progress in Jordan’s reform plans and commented on the latest regional developments.
He stressed the need to resolve the Palestinian issue, which he described as the core cause of the Middle East.
Cicchitto noted that Italy has intensified its contacts in the region to have a closer look at the challenges it faces, voicing appreciation for the Kingdom’s role in hosting a large number of Syrian refugees despite its limited resources.
Also on Monday, Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh met with the Italian delegates and discussed prospects for further cooperation, especially at the parliamentary level.
