AMMAN — As part of their round of visits to “promising sectors” driving the national economy, Prime Minister Hani Mulki and the economic ministerial team on Monday visited the Royal Jordanian Airlines (RJ).

Following the endorsement of the financial reform programme, Mulki said the government had started to focus on the economic reform plan, starting with major institutions and companies that make up for the biggest contributions to the gross domestic product (GDP), directly or indirectly, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The team’s visit to RJ, among other national companies, aims at listening to the companies’ plans and challenges in order to enable the government to take decisions addressing these issues, Mulki said during a meeting with RJ Chairman Said Darwazeh.

The premier added that the government considers RJ as a major company in the national economy, which requires joint efforts to help the company overcome challenges and collect profits supporting its plans and development programmes.

He highlighted the significance of searching for methods that can help find solutions to RJ’s debts, stressing that the government is responsible for facilitating procedures for companies supporting growth rates and national economy.

For his part, Darwazeh said that RJ is a “prestigious” company that represents the Kingdom abroad and contributes to attracting more tourists, voicing his confidence in the company’s future.

RJ President and CEO Suleiman Obeidat stated that the company’s contribution to the GDP stands at some 3 per cent, while the direct and indirect contribution of the aviation sector to the GDP reaches up to 6 per cent.

RJ serves 45 international destinations, excluding eight other regional ones closed for unstable conditions.
