PM pays homage to former foreign minister Kamel Abu Jaber

AMMAN — Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Friday mourned the passing of former foreign minister Kamel Abu Jaber.

The prime minister recalled Jaber’s great services for his homeland for all the positions he held, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Jaber held the post of minister of foreign affairs from 1991 to 1993, minister of national economy in 1973 and several academic positions at local and international universities.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi also expressed condolences over the passing of the former foreign minister on Friday. Safadi took to Twitter to say: “May God have mercy on our dear late brother, former foreign minister Kamel Abu Jaber, who passed away [on Friday].”

“On behalf of all our colleagues at the ministry, I express sincere condolences to the national monument, who left behind him an illuminating mark through decades of service to the Kingdom. Our sincerest condolences to his family. We wish them patience and solace,” he wrote.

Also on Friday, Senate President Faisal Fayez mourned Abu Jaber, who had also served as a former senator. 

Speaker of Lower House Atef Tarawneh also said that, in the passing of the former minister, Jordan has lost “a great national figure”. 

Tarawneh said in a Tweet: “Jordan has lost a state figure who remained steadfast in defending the Kingdom and its people, an uncompromising politician and an academic who has left behind a great legacy in every position he occupied.”
