AMMAN — Renovation work at the Omari border crossing is nearing completion, while infrastructure work at the Jaber border crossing will be completed in the next few days, the government announced on Tuesday.
Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Omar Razzaz, during a meeting at the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management (NCSCM) with the committee for organising border crossings, stressed that infrastructure renovation at land border crossings, formerly considered virus hotspots, should go hand in hand with enhanced procedures.
Razzaz lauded the e-gate project, which contributes in reducing contact and the movement of people at the border crossings.
The e-gate project, which is being completed by the Customs Department and relevant agencies, is designated to processing customs transactions and clearing of goods for trucks destined to Jordan and transit trucks.
The committee, during the meeting, was tasked with reviewing new procedures at border crossings to identify any shortcomings and ensure the integrity of health and preventive procedures, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Interior Minister Salameh Hammad said that infrastructure work for improving the Omari border crossing is almost finished, notably the caravans allocated for quarantine.
Transport Minister Khaled Saif also briefed the gathering on the measures to be taken to ease procedures at the Omari border crossing, while at the same time maintaining public health and safety.
