Prince Hassan underscores turning crises into opportunities

AMMAN — HRH Prince Hassan, President of the Higher Council for Science and Technology, on Sunday, underscored the imperative to turn crises and problems into opportunities and achievements.

Prince Hassan highlighted the global awareness towards the Palestinian cause during a visit to the Arab Universities Union, accompanied by HRH Princess Sumaya, president of the Royal Scientific Society, along with university presidents and experts, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Prince Hassan addressed the dire situation in Gaza, highlighting the profound deprivation experienced by Palestinians in terms of basic necessities like water, food, medicine, cooking fuel and sanitation.  He also reiterated the urgent need for a new international humanitarian system to address crises, whether man-made or natural, through human determination.

Prince Hassan also stressed the importance of fostering integration and solidarity between the Levant and the Arabian Peninsula to achieve sustainable social and economic development He also called for the establishment of independent knowledge bases and research centres in the Levant that work within the priorities and needs of the region. 

Prince Hassan also highlighted the need to transform scientific research into effective developmental projects, emphasising that bridging the gap between scientific research and its practical applications is crucial. He also called for the activation of the university's scientific endowment to empower communities to take a role in development within the framework of good governance.

He also called for removing barriers to technology innovation, supporting innovators, providing research opportunities, and motivating students through the development of online and distance education in universities.

HH Princess Sumaya emphasised the importance of collaboration between Jordanian universities in scientific research and the exchange of expertise. She also highlighted the importance of focusing on creating scientific alliances. 

Princess Sumaya University for Technology President Mashhoor Rifai announced the launch of the "Hasan Learning Platform" in honour of Prince Hasan's contributions to the higher education sector. The platform aims to provide lifelong self-learning opportunities globally and for the Arab world to enrich online Arabic content.
