Princess Alia calls for unified measures to prevent illegal trade of endangered species

AMMAN — HRH Princess Alia on Tuesday inaugurated a stakeholder coordination meeting featuring participants from several Arab countries prior to the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), scheduled to be held in Panama between November 14 and 25. 

Welcoming attendees, Princess Alia urged participants to "unify the goal and opinion" and to agree on measures to prevent the illegal animal trade and to preserve global biodiversity, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

The meeting is organised by the Princess Alia Foundation, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN). RSCN Director General Fadi Nasser said that Jordan was an early signatory to CITES and has contributed to helping save numerous species from extinction.
