Princess Sumaya University ranks champion at National Sumo Robots Contest 2024

AMMAN — Princess Sumaya University for Technology has been crowned champion of the 3rd National Sumo Robots Contest, held over three days at Hussein Technical University. The university's teams secured first and third places out of 220 teams from 22 Jordanian universities, according to a statement for The Jordan Times.

The Automation and Robotics Club teams, under the supervision of Aws Kanaan, excelled with one team securing first place and another taking third. The first-place team included Omar Tobasi, Yousef Jarbo, and Mohammad Anshasi. The team that finished in third place comprised of Obada Sadaka, Salem Salah, and Omar Asad, supervised by Omar Tobasi.

The university also achieved several other awards. Anas Areiqat and Mohammad Doleh clinched first place in the Best Programming category. For the Best Robot Strategy Award, the university teams won both first and second places, with Laith Taani, Omar Shonnar, and Mahmoud Shorbaji taking first place, and Aws Omari and Rania Jamjoum coming in second. Furthermore, Ghaleb Aliwat and Sanad Abu Tayeh received the Rising Star Award, according to the statement.

Wejdan Abu Elhaija, President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology, praised the students' exceptional skills and also highlighted the university's commitment to high-quality technical education. Abu Elhaija emphasized the university's dedication to providing a top-tier scientific environment, which aligns with HRH Princess Sumaya bint Hassan’s vision of preparing highly qualified youth and enhancing life quality.

Rami Salem, Dean of Student Affairs, highlighted the importance of such competitions in developing students' skills, fostering team spirit, and encouraging innovation while maintaining academic excellence, the statement said.
