Pro-Jerusalem committee slams Israel for attack on Al Aqsa

AMMAN — Secretary General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs Abdullah Kanaan has described the recent Israeli attack on Al Aqsa Mosque during the last 10 days of Ramadan as a “dangerous escalation by the Israeli government”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Monday.
In a statement issued by the committee and carried by Petra, Kanaan said that the act took place during the Reunification of Jerusalem day, which Israelis celebrate as a national holiday that commemorates their complete occupation of Jerusalem, specifically its eastern side during the 1967 war.
The Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs deems the actions of the Israeli occupation as illegitimate and said they could lead the region and the world to a state of instability, imposing a form of “jungle law” that is based on power only with no respect for any laws, human dignity or freedom of belief.
The committee called on major powers of the world to practice their humanitarian responsibilities towards the Palestinian cause, including occupied Jerusalem, and to focus more on the US, which is an advocate of peace and a believer in freedom according to the principles of the American Revolution, the statement added.
However, the statement continued, the US has become a supporter of Israel’s violent and illegal settlement policies.
The committee also reaffirmed its support for the Palestinians and occupied Jerusalem, noting that it will stand alongside Jordanians to support the Palestinian cause, led by His Majesty King Abdullah, Custodian of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
His Majesty highlighted the importance of preserving the historical and legal status quo in occupied Jerusalem through many international platforms, the committee said, adding that the King supports the Arab Peace Initiative that calls for establishing an independent Palestinian state with occupied Jerusalem as its capital in order to preserve world peace and security.
