AMMAN — The Jordan Economic Forum (JEF) on Thursday expressed the value of the recently launched employment programme to employ Jordanians at gas stations.
Under the theme “give priority to Jordanian workers”, the programme that focuses on replacing foreign workers with Jordanian workers, was launched by the Ministry of Labour in cooperation with the three main fuel distribution companies operating in the Kingdom — Jordan Petroleum Products Marketing Company (JoPetrol), Manaseer Oil & Gas, and Total Jordan — and the JEF.
The JEF, last year, based on a detailed study, made a recommendation to replace foreign workers with Jordanian workers in the fuel sector to reduce unemployment rates among youth.
The study was made in cooperation with JoPetrol, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
As part of the National Employment Programme, the newly launched programme is expected to recruit 1,500 young Jordanians, males and females, during its first year.
Aiming to provide permanent jobs, the programme offers a set of incentives, including a JD500 incentive for each individual who completes a full year in the sector, as well as health insurance and social security coverage.
The Ministry of Labour had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Syndicate of Fuel Owners, and a number of fuel derivative marketing companies meant to give priority to employing Jordanian workers in the fuel sector, Petra added.
