AMMAN — The security strategy and its affiliated plans, programmes and operational goals have been set according to general national policy to protect Jordanian interests, Public Security Directorate (PSD) Director Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Maaytah said on Monday.

Delivering a lecture at the Royal Jordanian National Defence College (RJNDC) titled “The public security strategy and the concept of comprehensive security”, Maaytah said that the PSD works according to a national approach that ensures harmony among state institutions, including the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, General Intelligence Department, ministries as well as public and private institutions.

The director stressed the importance of combating crime and holding perpetrators accountable.

Other issues of concern for the PSD include raising awareness on crime and limiting the adverse societal effects of crime, Maaytah said, reiterating that security apparatuses are in “an ongoing war” against narcotics until traffickers are entirely eliminated, according to a PSD statement.

Meanwhile, improving traffic conditions is an issue that the PSD is addressing through a comprehensive executive strategy in coordination with the relevant ministries and institutions, he said.

Maaytah also noted that the PSD has allocated a large part of its comprehensive strategy to developing a civil protection system, to be entrusted to the Civil Defence Department (CDD).

The director noted that the system will take a specialisation approach, adding that CDD personnel will continue to be trained to ensure an efficient response to any potential emergency.

The director highlighted the concept of comprehensive security, and its ability to support national development in terms of security, the economy, the environment and society.

The aim of this concept is to provide a safe environment for citizens and residents, and to maintain the country’s security, he added.

At the end of the lecture, Maaytah answered questions from students and participants from the college’s programmes.
