AMMAN — The Public Security Directorate (PSD) has inspected over 500,000 vehicles as part of its winter campaign to check vehicle safety so that drivers can deal with inclement winter weather, a source at the Central Traffic Department (CTD) said on Sunday.
Speaking to Amen FM, the source added that this campaign has registered a record 521,000 inspected vehicles. This is the largest number of vehicles to be inspected in one campaign, according to a PSD statement.
He added that the campaign, co-implemented by CTD, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Department (DVLD), and the Highway Patrols and Rangers, will last to mid-December after it was extended to inspect the highest number of vehicles possible.
The source said that a vehicle subject to inspection is marked by a sticker placed on the windscreen of the vehicle, stating that it is technically ready. In the case of any defects, the driver will be asked to fix the problems within a week before receiving any fines, after which they will be referred to their nearest CTD or DVLD branch, the source added.
He noted that if the grace period ends without fixing the noted defects, the driver will be fined and referred to DVLD to subject their vehicles for technical inspection.
The CTD source noted that the campaign also includes inspecting emissions from exhaust pipes as well as checking the sound levels of illegally installed subwoofers.
